We have two HP printers that firmware updates keep failing on with no error codes or logged events. One Color LaserJet CP4525, current firmware 20091110 07.010.3 - trying to update to 20140725 07.164.1, and one LaserJet P4014, current firmware 20090925 04.049.3 - trying to update to 20140723 04.213.1. We have tried the HP printer firmware update utility for both models, FTP, and USB methods to try and update these. As soon as the firmware file is received by the printers, they restart and come back up in ready mode with no error code and nothing in the event logs. The firmware version does not get updated. Printers are in ready state with no pending print jobs at the time of the firmware push. We initially thought this was due to such an old current firmware version, however we updated another P4014 from version 20090604 04.048.4 to 20140723 04.213.1 today without an issue. There are several ways to upgrade the firmware on an HP LaserJet p4015 printer. The two quickest ways to upgrade it are either via the HP Easy Firmware Upgrade How to upgrade HP LaserJet p4015 Firmware - Spiceworks. We need to update for vulnerability patching and other functionality. Does anyone have any suggestions? Cmhc218 wrote: Unfortunately, we've also tried looking for the older firmware versions. We've only found unreliable sources, and HP does not have them available. In addition, we updated another P4014 from a firmware version that was even older than the one currently installed on the problem printer. Naturally the warranty is expired on both, but I doubt HP would work with us to provide an older firmware version even if that was not the case. Randy1699 wrote: Maybe try an older firmware update and do it incrementally? Cmhc218, thank you for your posting in Spiceworks and sorry to read about your firmware issue. The fact that you are able to update one P1404 and not another is baffling. Thanks to Randy for his very helpful input. If the issue is not resolved, you may want to contact HP support at 800 334-5144 on a per incident basis (around $30) or purchase one of the very reasonably priced carepacks--starting at $99. Regarding downloading an older firmware version, I see that the note for the latest firmware states: 'ATTENTION: Once this firmware has been applied to your printer or multifunction device it CANNOT BE DOWNGRADED to a previous version of firmware earlier than 20120112 04.160.9. BACKGROUND: It is important to note that Code Signing Verification functionality has been provided with this version of firmware and will be provided with all future versions of firmware, therefore, the ability to downgrade to a previous version of firmware no longer exists.' Although the reference is to the current firmware version, most likely an older version would not be available. I'll be happy to assist if you have questions about the carepacks.
